A Son Unique is a posthumous album by Ol' Dirty Bastard. Intended to be his third proper solo album (not counting 2002's The Trials and Tribulations of Russell Jones, which is a compilation of remixed versions of songs recorded in ODB's early career), it was supposed to be released after ODB's death, but was eventually shelved.[3] It was meant to be distributed by the Dame Dash Music Group.
Background
A Son Unique was originally to be released on August 9, 2005, but was subject to numerous delays. It was to be released on November 7, 2006 to commemorate the anniversary of ODB's death, which occurred on November 13, 2004, but kept getting pushed back. On the day of its planned release, A Son Unique was made available on iTunes. The release was eventually cancelled by ODB's label, Roc-a-Fella Records. The album was finally going to be released in November 2009 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of ODB's death, but eventually got delayed again.
Before releasing A Son Unique, ODB changed his stage name from Ol' Dirty Bastard to Dirt McGirt. The working title for the album was Dirt McGirt.
